What is Kindermusik?
Kindermusik is an international early childhood music and movement program for children from newborn to seven years of age.
Kindermusik is designed to nurture the development of the whole child. Musical experiences foster growth in the young child, not only musically, but also their physical, emotional, social, language and cognitive development as well.
Kindermusik’s methodology is built on the music education philosophies of Orff, Kodaly, Laban and Dalcroze. The curriculum incorporates the work of early childhood development experts such as Piaget, Vygotsky, Montessori, Greenspan and Brazelton. Classes are designed to involve every aspect of the developing child: language, motor skills, social skills, cognitive development and emotional growth.
Kindermusik values are:
- Child centred - classroom environment celebrates the individuality of each child.
- Developmentally appropriate - understanding the interests and skills and learning processes at each stage of development.
- Concerned with the whole child - music and movement experiences foster growth in other areas of child development
- Process, not performance oriented - the experience is valued over any level of achievement.
- Fun for children and families - children respond to activities which are fun and enjoyable.
- Inclusive of parents - parents are the most important people in a young child’s life.
- Quality class and take-home materials - set the stage for learning and enjoyment at home.
